Summary

This chapter is about networks where ties can have more than one value. The set of tie values is assumed to be ordinal discrete, but not too large, for example, weak and strong. It is assumed that transitions from one value to the next higher value are qualitatively different, depending on the value. The model definition exploits the possibilities implicit in the multivariate stochastic actor-oriented model of the preceding chapter. A similar model for signed networks is also treated.
