Inverse simulation is becoming a more widely usedtechnique in flight mechanics studies. The abilityto predict control and response time histories for apredefined manoeuvre or task has obvious benefits incertain applications (handling qualities studiesrelated to the ADS-33 requirements for helicopters, for example). The main criticisms of the techniquehave always been concerned with the numericalproblems usually encountered when solving theequations of motion in the inverse manner. In thispaper these problems are highlighted and a simpletechnique which overcomes them is presented. Thistechnique provides a robust mechanism wherebyreliable and consistent inverse simulations arepossible.
