Call for Papers
Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly influential and fast-moving area in mental health research and clinical practice. This collection aims to bring together papers that examine how AI can improve understanding, prediction, and care across the lifespan. We welcome methodological, clinical, and translational contributions, and we particularly encourage work that speaks directly to clinical decision making.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- decision support tools that inform assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment selection, and monitoring
- prediction of clinical outcomes (for example relapse, response, adverse effects, or functional recovery) and risk stratification
- tools for measurement and monitoring using multimodal data (clinical records, neuroimaging, digital phenotyping, wearables, speech and language, or questionnaires)
- implementation and evaluation in clinical settings, including workflow integration, usability, and impact on patient-relevant outcomes
- fairness, bias, explainability, transparency, safety, governance, and reporting standards for clinical AI
- validation, generalisability, and reproducibility, including external validation and prospective or pragmatic evaluations
- translational pathways, including regulatory and ethical considerations, and co-design with clinicians and service users
The aim is to clarify both the opportunities and the constraints of responsible and clinically meaningful AI in mental health. The collection will include invited papers and unsolicited submissions.
Submission deadline: 28th February 2027
Submission Instructions: All manuscripts should be submitted via the Psychological Medicine's submission page. Please select the themed issue you are submitting to from the dropdown list in Editorial Manager during Step 1 of the submission process.
