Join the Editorial Vision of Quaternary Research: Call for Early Career Board Members
The internationally recognized journal Quaternary Research, published by Cambridge University Press, is seeking dynamic and forward-thinking early-career researchers to join its Editorial Board. As we look toward the future of the field, we invite applications from researchers who are in the early stages of their academic careers or have recently completed their PhD. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain high-level experience in scholarly publishing while helping shape the strategic direction of a journal that bridges archaeology, botany, geochemistry, geomorphology, paleontology, and soil science.
As an Early Career Editorial Board Member, you will play an active role in maintaining the journal’s reputation for excellence. Your responsibilities will include working closely with the Senior Editors to identify emerging research trends. You will be encouraged to propose and commission "critiques" and review 1-2 articles per year that address "big picture" questions in Quaternary Science, ensuring the journal continues to publish high-impact findings rather than isolated regional exceptions.
We are looking for candidates with an emerging strong publishing record and establishing professional links within the Quaternary community. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to work and collaborate effectively within a diverse editorial team. Successful candidates will be expected to provide an abbreviated development plan, not exceeding 2 pages, outlining their vision for the journal. This plan should specifically address strategies to engage reviewers, identify new areas for commissioning, and improve key journal metrics to ensure Quaternary Research remains a primary destination for global research.
Interested applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, their development plan, and the contact information for two referees to Editorial Assistant Lucia Manatschal at lmanats@ncsu.edu by December 1, 2026. Please use "QR Call for Early Career Editorial Board" as your email subject line. This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the global discourse on the Earth’s recent history and to foster the next generation of scientific breakthroughs.
