When I was appointed as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal in February 2016, I had no idea what a magnificent experience it would be. After nine fascinating issues and almost 4 years of collaborating as a team, I am left with only two words: Thank you!
Thank you to Wang Jiangyu and Kevin Y.L. Tan for helping me develop a strategic direction for the Journal that raised it to another level and for always being such a joy to work with as members of the Executive Team.
Thank you to Dian A.H. Shah who devoted more skill, time, and energy to the Journal as its Deputy Editor than anyone – myself included – and who was invaluable to the Journal's success.
Thank you to our Book Review Editors, David Donald and Michael W. Dowdle, who have created a new exciting aspect of the Journal.
Thank you to Jason Bonin who, as the Journal's first Deputy Editor, expertly handled the difficult task of transitioning to a new publisher and leadership team with enormous success.
Thank you to the members of the Editorial Board and Advisory Board who epitomize the ethos of the Journal by being remarkable scholars and wonderful people who share a passion for Asia and the law.
Thank you to the Administrative Team, particularly Margaret Ang, Elizabeth Chua, and Khairiyah Binte Abu, who I admire for their dedication to excellence and thoughtfulness as colleagues.
Thank you to the Associate Editors who devoted their skill and care to every issue to ensure that it met the highest international standards.
Thank you to ASLI, particularly Gary F. Bell as its former Director, for always supporting the mission of the Journal to be a voice for Asia, from Asia, but with a message for the world.
Thank you to NUS Law, particularly Dean Simon Chesterman, for providing encouragement, funding, and administrative support that were invaluable to the Journal's success.
Thank you to Cambridge University Press, particularly Nicki Marshall and Hannah Patrick, for being a world class publisher that has made the Journal a leader in its field.
Thank you to the Authors who have inspired me with their insights, creativity, and thoughtfulness, and for making the Journal what it has become.
Thank you to the Readers who give meaning to our work and who have sent encouraging notes of kind appreciation more often than I could have ever imagined.
Thank you to Arif A. Jamal and Kevin Y.L. Tan, the new Co-Editors-in-Chief of the Journal, who I am positive will raise the Journal to even greater heights.
Thank you to my wife Norah and my son Malakai for making the journey a remarkable experience.
As always, we hope that you enjoy reading this Issue as much as we enjoyed working on it.
