This special issue of the journal Philosophy of Science presents a curated selection of the contributed papers from the 2024 biennial meeting of the Philosophy of Science Association. A second special issue with selected symposium papers will be published next year. The meeting—held in New Orleans, Louisiana from November 14 to 17, 2024—was a celebration of the range, diversity, and strength of our discipline. Philosophers of science are addressing key issues, questions, and controversies across many different areas of science. This special issue represents some of the best, cutting-edge work.
The 2024 PSA received more symposium and contributed paper submissions than at any previous PSA meeting, covering a wide array of topics. The Program Committee did an exceptional job with the daunting task of quickly reviewing this record number of submissions. Service on the PSA Program Committee always involves a significant investment of time, and this conference required even more than usual. We owe a collective debt of gratitude to the Program Committee members for their willingness to serve, careful evaluations of submissions, and overall good humor throughout the process. They were:

Thanks to Max Cormendy and the entire Philosophy of Science Association staff who were endlessly adaptable and supportive throughout the process. Thanks also to James Weatherall and Margaret Farrell for their indispensable guidance in assembling the special issues. In addition, multiple former PSA Program Chairs provided advice and help along the way. A successful PSA conference truly requires a village.
PSA 2024 demonstrated the energy, passion, and importance of philosophy of science today. And these contributed papers show that our discipline has an even brighter future ahead of it.
