Chelonibia patula (Ranzani, 1820) is a cosmopolitan species. It was reported on artificial subtratum (Relini, Reference Relini1980; Frazier & Margaritoulis, Reference Frazier and Margaritoulis1990) and there are also many host-basibionts for this species in the world's oceans. Some of these are sea turtles (Ross & Jackson, Reference Ross and Jackson1972; Jones et al., Reference Jones, Hewitt and Sampey2000; Kitsos et al., Reference Kitsos, Christodoulou, Kalpakis, Noidou and Koukouras2003), portunid crabs (Williams & Porter, Reference Williams and Porter1964; Mahjabeen & Mustaquim, Reference Mahjabeen and Mustaquim1994; Pasternak et al., Reference Pasternak, Abelsono and Achituv2002), gastropods (Darwin, Reference Darwin1854) and manatees (Cintrón de Jesús, Reference Cintrón de Jesús2001). Chelonibia patula has been known from the western and central Mediterranean Sea and the Levantine Basin (Koukoura & Matsa, Reference Koukoura and Matsa1998; Pasternak et al., Reference Pasternak, Abelsono and Achituv2002) and has been reported on the sea turtle Caretta caretta (Linnaeus, 1758) in Greece (Kitsos et al., Reference Kitsos, Christodoulou, Kalpakis, Noidou and Koukouras2003, Reference Kitsos, Christodoulou, Arvanitidis, Mavidis, Kirmitzoglou and Koukouras2005), on the caparace of Portunus pelagicus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Israel (Pasternak et al., Reference Pasternak, Abelsono and Achituv2002), and on some artificial materials in Italy (Relini, Reference Relini1980; Frazier & Margaritoulis, Reference Frazier and Margaritoulis1990). Four female specimens of the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus), which are bearing Chelonibia patula on their carapaces (Figure 1) have been collected on a trammel net off Adana on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Some smaller individuals have been found to hold onto the shells of the larger individuals on the crab carapace (Figure 1). Sampling coordinates are 36°44′32″N 35°41′26″E. The specimens have been deposited at the Ege University, Faculty of Fisheries Museum, Turkey and the Collection No. is ESFM-MAX/2009-2218.
Specimens of Chelonibia patula and their host Callinectes sapidus.
Chelonibia patula is reported for the first time from the Turkish coasts. Furthermore, some morphometric measurements of the specimens are given in Table 1.
Morphometric measurements of Callinectes sapidus and Chelonibia patula.

CW, carapace width in cm; W, weight of crab; N, number of C. patula on a crab; Max., maximum; Min., minimum; Ø, basal diameter of C. patula specimens in mm.
