The Central European History Convention (CEHC) was held at the University of Vienna. It brought together hundreds of scholars from dozens of countries. The papers and presentations covered a wide range of topics, from environmental and global history to the history of science and migration. Special emphasis was placed on the work of Professor Pieter Judson, who is a Senior Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Pieter also previously served as editor of the Austrian History Yearbook for a decade.
The convention featured two keynote addresses, and both speakers—Peter Haslinger and Tara Zahra—have generously agreed to publish a written version of their talks here. This is followed by brief reflections on the convention by six members of the AHY’s editorial team. Finally, we include the abstracts and citations of the five award-winning presentations given at the convention.
