The authors apologise that upon publication equation (2.1) of Squire & Mallet (Reference Squire and Mallet2022) incorrectly gives the induction term in terms of the fluctuating magnetic field alone. The equation should read

Thus, the compressive flow acts on the total magnetic field
$\overline {\boldsymbol{B}}+\delta \boldsymbol{B}$
, rather than on
$\delta \boldsymbol{B}$
alone.
The correct equation was used in deriving all subsequent equations and in all numerical calculations and code. The results and conclusions of the paper are therefore unaffected.
