The authors regret mistakes that were made in the preparation of the manuscript which do not impact the conclusions or the findings of the paper, Sanford et al., Reference Sanford, Pianta, Schmid and Musto2025. The authors apologise specifically to the Manifesto Project Team for the incorrect citations to and improper publication of their data in the replication package. The following corrections and their corresponding locations within the paper are reflected below:
-
• Contribution: The framing of the original paper can lead to a misunderstanding: The main contribution of the paper is a variable measuring change in climate change salience per party over time and the model to estimate it. The authors regret if any other impression, suggesting a more original contribution than was actually made, was created.
-
• Data availability statement: The authors uploaded a replication package containing code and data to reproduce the main results reported in the article, based on quasi-sentence level predictions produced by the policlim model. This package included copyright-protected data from the Manifesto Project, violating the data’s Terms of Use. The authors regret this oversight. In the updated replication package, the climate salience variable is now provided at the manifesto level only, accompanied by a script with instructions for merging it with the Manifesto Project dataset, and users are directed to cite the Manifesto Project appropriately (Sanford et al., Reference Sanford, Pianta, Schmid and Musto2025a).
-
• Abstract: The authors clarify that the source of the manifesto texts used to develop the policlim model of climate change salience and the resulting variable presented in the article is the Manifesto Project Collection (Corpus Version 2024-1 and Dataset Version 2024a).
-
• Clarified text, Main Text: The authors wish to add correct citations to the Manifesto Project Data, Corpus, Codebook, and manifestoberta model. The authors wish to correct their statement that “there is typically a delay of up to five years between an election and when the corresponding manifestos are uploaded to the MPD”. This is not correct.
-
• Clarified text, Appendix: The authors wish to add the citation to the Manifesto Project Handbook, Version 5 (2021). The authors also wish to clarify that the Manifesto Project Corpus does contain Catalan and Galician manifestos, but given as none of these parties received over 5% and the authors requested only documents of parties above this threshold, the API did not return them. The Appendix also stated that 24 French manifestos were missing at time of collection from the Manifesto Project API. The authors wish to correct this to 5 missing French manifestos.
