INTRODUCTION
In this paper, a checklist of barnacles of the superfamily Coronuloidea occurring on marine animals is presented. The systematic arrangement used herein follows Newman (Reference Newman and Forest1996) rather than Ross & Frick (Reference Ross and Frick2011) for reasons taken up in Hayashi (Reference Hayashi2012) in some detail. The present author deems the subfamilies of the Cheonibiidae (Chelonibiinae, Emersoniinae and Protochelonibiinae) proposed by Harzhauser et al. (Reference Harzhauser, Newman and Grunert2011), as well as those included of Ross & Frick (Reference Ross and Frick2007, Reference Ross and Frick2011), to be unnecessary because the family Chelonibiidae has only three genera (Chelonibia, Emersonius and Protochelonibia), and they are ignored herein. Species within each genus and the references within each species are arranged alphabetically. The original naming combinations and known synonyms are listed and each species is entered under the current binomen, followed by the author's name, date of publication and page number. The geographical distributions are recorded for the hosts and their general geographical occurence where possible (Table 1). The fossil species are indicated by † and fossil records of Coronuloidea (including extant species) are listed by geological age and location (Table 2). When uncertainty regarding a species record exists, the species has been recorded with a query and a note.
Modern species of Coronuloidea indicating the host species and its collection locality. Locality records are arranged from Asia, Oceania, Indies, Mediterranean, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Atlantic, North America, South America to Pacific area.
Fossil records of Coronuloidea (including extant species) indicating their geological ages and their collection locality.
The literature list at the end of this paper includes the complete field of scientific papers regarding the superfamily Coronuloidea (including taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, biology, palaeontology and natural history) and some preteritions in the catalogue of species by Newman & Ross (Reference Newman and Ross1976) are also compensated for in this list.

REMARKS
Ross & Frick (Reference Ross and Frick2007) revised the taxonomic position of T. cheloniae and erected a new genus Chelolepas for this species (Ross & Frick, Reference Ross and Frick2007). However this nomenclatural act was published in Marine Turtle Newsletter. The journal is open to the public via a website while this is not available work under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature 4th edition (Article 9). This nomenclatural act cannot be validated and this was mentioned in Hayashi (Reference Hayashi2012), too. So, Chelolepas is the void nomenclature and this species should be listed as Tubicinella cheloniae.

REMARKS
Genus Stomatolepas was described by Pilsbry (Reference Pilsbry1910) for a new species S. praegustator, collected from the gullet of a loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta, at Tortugas, Florida. Prior to this work, another species S. elegans had been described as Coronula elegans by Costa (Reference Costa1838) from Taranto, Italy. Pilsbry (Reference Pilsbry1916) regarded this species also to be included in the genus Stomatolepas. He suspected that S. praegustator might be identical with Costa's S. elegans, but hesitated to make that determination, because Costa's description of S. elegans was imperfect. Afterwards, Nilsson-Cantell (Reference Nilsson-Cantell1930b) described a new species with transversely elongated imbricating scales, named as S. transversa. Stomatolepas transversa is easily distinguished by the shell and the scales (Nilsson-Cantell, Reference Nilsson-Cantell1930b; Monroe & Limpus, Reference Monroe and Limpus1979; Young, Reference Young1991; Hayashi, Reference Hayashi2012). While, Hiro (Reference Hiro1936b) regarded S. transversa as a synonym of S. elegans, Ren (Reference Ren1980) described other similar looking specimens as S. pulchra. Among these barnacles, Stomatolepas transversa and S. pulchra have been well-described in shell structure and soft-part morphology by many authors (Monroe & Limpus, Reference Monroe and Limpus1979; Ren, Reference Ren1980; Young, Reference Young1991; Hayashi, Reference Hayashi2012); it is clear that S. pulchra is a junior synonym of S. transversa. Monroe & Limpus (Reference Monroe and Limpus1979) reviewed the complicated taxonomy of Stomatolepas and indicated the missing types and inadequate descriptions of S. elegans by Costa (Reference Costa1838). However, they hesitated to select a neotype for S. elegans and described S. dermochelys as new, while regarding S. elegans as a nomen dubium. According to Winston (Reference Winston1999), anyone working on a species that resembles one in a questionable illustration or an unclear old description would do better to describe the species as new, making a note of the early name as a possibility. Winston believed that should his original specimens someday be discovered, restudy might result in its name becoming a junior synonym, but at least the history of the name and the decision would be clear. Also, Quicke (Reference Quicke1993) stated that a neotype specimen should come from the same locality as the original as much as possible. After a few decades, Frick et al. (Reference Frick, Zardus and Lazo-Wasem2010a) redescribed S. elegans with a neotype; however, this neotype was collected from Nova Scotia whereas Costa's (1838) original S. elegans was from Taranto, Italy. A revision of Stomatolepas species is certainly needed, but in this checklist I rely on the decisions of previous authors, particularly Monroe & Limpus (Reference Monroe and Limpus1979) in honour of their detailed and exhaustive observations including shell and soft-part morphology.
