Summary

Luther named the “Scriptures alone” as the ultimate authority in doctrinal matters and in steering religious practices in communities of faith where the proper meaning of the gospel was to be taught with attention to God’s two sermons – law and gospel. Underscoring of Christ as the unique lens to God’s goodness, and to salvation, Luther fails to see the value of other religions, which calls for critical attention, with Luther and with medieval catholic teaching in general.
