Cambridge University Press and the Linguistic Society of America (LSA) are excited to announce that Cambridge University Press will publish the Society’s journals Language and Phonological Data and Analysis from 2026 and the Proceedings of the Linguistic Society of America from 2027. This partnership will also see the launch of the new Journal of Black Language and Culture from 2027.
Under the arrangement, the LSA will retain full oversight over the selection of journal content and the intellectual direction of the journals, continue to manage the rigorous peer review and editorial processes, and appoint the editors and boards.
Language will become fully open access, with all content accepted for publication from Volume 102 to be published with a Creative Commons license. The costs of open access publication will be covered through agreements between the publisher and the author’s institution, payment of APCs for those with third-party funding, or else waived entirely, ensuring every author can publish and enjoy the benefits of OA.
Phonological Data and Analysis will be open access from Volume 8 (2026); published with a Creative Commons licence and freely available to read online (see the journal’s Open Access Options page for available licence options). The costs of open access publication will be covered through agreements between the publisher and the author’s institution, payment of APCs for those with third-party funding designated for the purpose, or else waived entirely, ensuring every author can publish and enjoy the benefits of OA.
